Think of it as a way of observing the world and learning, something that can be done anytime, like taking notes, jotting down a thought, or sending a text.
Mistaking drawing for art is embedded in our institutions (...) For centuries, schools have lumped drawing with painting and confined it in an “aesthetic cage” (...)
Our anxiety around drawing starts around puberty, when we begin self-critiquing our abilities to render a perfect likeness, Dowd says. “The self-consciousness associated with ‘good’ drawing, or a naive form of realism, is mostly to blame,” he explains to Quartz. ”If you take a step back, and define drawing as symbolic mark-making, it’s obvious that all human beings draw. Diagrams, maps, doodles, smiley faces: These are all drawings!”

/ comiXconnection takes up the subject of current independent comics in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary and Romania. The exhibition project seeks out the varied comic scenes in these adjoining countries and explores correlations between them. It has toured through that region and other venues since 2013. The 20th and last station, in Berlin, will be the first to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the project. comiXconnection brings audiences closer to the little known world of comics in Southeast Europe, while also showing different applications for the genre.
