Dennis Woyda + Krzysztof Gawronkiewicz/Poland
"Midnight Shaving" is an episode of the Polish comic series "Mikropolis" by Krzysztof Gawronkiweicz (illustrations) and Dennis Wojda (story). Mikropolis is a small town in the middle of nowhere, inhabited by a gallery of rather unusual citizens. The series has been published in a large number of magazines and newspapers since 1994, including Poland's largest daily newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza. Forreign publications include "Aargh!" (Czech Republic) and "Spirou" (Belgium). Two books have been published so far – "Mikropolis. The Tourist Guide" and "Mikropolis. Mohair Dreams", both recently reissued by Egmont. The series has been awarded at the International Comic Festival in Lodz (Grand Prix, Best Script, Public Choice Award). The duo is now collaborating on a new book and an adaptation of the comic for animated film.
Krzysztof Gawronkiewicz (b. 1969 in Warsaw) is known as one of Poland's most renowned comic illustrators. He has published a long number of books in Poland and in France. In 2003 he won (together with writer Grzegorz Janusz) a contest organized by Glénat and Arte for the best European comic. He lives in Warsaw and works as an illustrator and storyboard artist. Dennis Wojda (b. 1973 in Stockholm) is mainly a writer but also an illustrator. He studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where he met Krzysztof Gawronkiewicz. Since then he has collaborated with the creme of Poland's illustrators resulting in a large number of publications. He works as a designer and illustrator in Warsaw.
